TikTok expands partnerships with Spotify and Amazon Music to link app directly to streaming services in 19 new markets

Last month, TikTok launched a feature called “Add to Music App” that lets its users save songs they discover via TikTok on streaming services including Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music.

The tool, which links TikTok directly to those music streaming services, was originally launched in the US and UK but is now rolling out to users in 19 additional countries.

The Add to Music App feature is rolling out in Canada; Japan; Germany; France; Italy; Spain; Saudi Arabia; Ireland; Sweden; Thailand; Malaysia; UAE; Argentina; Colombia; The Netherlands; Turkey; South Africa; Vietnam and the Philippines.

Amazon Music is not available in Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia; UAE, Turkey, South Africa, and the Philippines.

The Add to Music App feature appears as a button that says ‘Add Song’ next to a track name at the bottom of a TikTok video in the For You Feed.

Users can then save the song to the music streaming service of their choice. The first time a user presses the Add Song button, they can choose to save it to their preferred music streaming service.

TikTok users can also choose to add tracks to a new playlist or an existing playlist that they have created, but they will be saved to default locations on music streaming services.

On Amazon Music, tracks will be saved as default to the TikTok Songs playlist (or the playlist of your choice). On Spotify, tracks will be saved as default to the ‘Liked Songs’ playlist. Users can also use the Add to Music App feature from an artist’s Sound Detail Page.

Today’s news marks TikTok’s latest music-related update, and follows the introduction at the end of November of its ‘Artist Accounts’ specifically for musicians on the platform.

The ByteDance-owned social platform said that these verified accounts offer “a toolbox of features and promotional tools developed to forge a closer relationship between artist and fan on TikTok”.

Amongst those tools is a new “Music Tab” feature that curates an artist’s catalog into a list of available tracks (in a similar layout to that seen on streaming platforms such as Spotify).

TikTok also launched a “New Release” tool for Artist Account holders. This feature was first trialed in the summer by BTS to promote their single Take Two, but is now being rolled out widely as part of the new accounts.
