Accounting and Finance Director

Merge Records is an independent record label founded in 1989 and based in Durham, North Carolina. Our roster consists of over 130 artists from all over the world whose music we release, promote, and distribute internationally.

We have a full-time opening for an Accounting and Finance Director who will report directly to the two label owners. Salary is commensurate with experience and includes full benefits and ample paid time off. Responsibilities
  • Oversee all financial and accounting aspects of Merge Records and related entities
  • Prepare annual budget and quarterly financial statements for owners
  • Manage cash flow for Merge Records and related entities
  • Manage monthly close process
  • Manage royalty accounting process
  • Manage payroll and employee retirement contribution
  • Manage insurance renewals and audits
  • Work directly with outside CPA for preparation of annual tax returns for four entities
  • Supervise Staff Accountant
  • Serve as primary liaison with banks and credit card companies
  • Manage annual inventory count and inventory valuation
  • Develop and monitor budgets for every Merge release
  • Determine prices for all Merge releases
  • Assist owners in contract negotiations with bands
  • Track status of band contracts, advances, and territories

Essential Skills
  • BA/BS in Accounting or Business or equivalent experience and knowledge of financial accounting
  • 5+ years in a mid- or senior-level accounting role
  • QuickBooks Desktop
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel (PivotTable, VLOOKUP, et al.)
  • Employee supervision
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Ability to prepare, summarize, and interpret data in a concise and understandable manner
